ToxicAInment

How does visual social media influence user behavior and social attitudes?

The ToxicAInment project investigates how toxic content on visual social media such as TikTok, YouTube and Instagram is normalized disguised as entertainment.

It combines theories of entertainment, visual communication and hate speech in an innovative, empirically testable framework. With the help of AI, toxic entertainment content is identified, classified and mapped on a large scale. Qualitative analyses and experimental methods capture the characteristics and psychological effects of such content.

The aim is to understand how this form of media influences user behavior and social attitudes.
